Abstrat This study is the result of an investigation to assert if music teachers (musical education and musical expression) work with their students with Autism Spectrum disorders in a socially inclusive way. Therefore, in the theoretical analysis, we have focused on analyzing the concept of inclusive education and the ever growing need for proper training for teachers in a more inclusive society. The literary revision was focused on the Autism Spectrum, analyzing the social inclusion of children with this disorder in the educational context, teamwork between teachers, the role of the musical education and musical expression teacher, and the importance of music in the perspective of inclusion. As a result, and using a quantitative method, we have built an inquiry that has served as a tool for gathering data whose sample is composed of 56 1st and 2nd grade teachers. The results show that teachers have a lack of knowledge in respect to identifying the characteristics of Autism Spectrum disorders; they consider that the organizational models for responding to such disorders in schools are limited; they have trouble correctly identifying the roles and competences of regular and special education teachers, and admit the lack of training necessary to deal with students with Autism Spectrum disorders. We have also noted that music teachers, in their own perspective, are beginning to adopt teaching strategies that promote inclusion of students with Autism Spectrum disorders, and consider the benefits of music in the learning process. However, still show some difficulty in the process of inclusion of students. UR - http://repositorio.esepf.pt/handle/20.500.11796/1444 Y1 - 2014 PB - No publisher defined
