The context of interaction between a hypo therapist and a child with cerebral palsy/paralysis, as a potential communication facilitator becomes particularly interesting in what concerns the use of augmentative and alternative communication systems. Thus, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the promotion of these systems functional use by professionals who are involved in hypo therapy sessions with these children. That is why a questionnaire was developed having in mind the following items i) describe hypo therapists? profile who promote and/or don?t promote the use of AACSs along with children affected by cerebral paralysis as well as their training and perception of it, ii) describe the AACSs possessed by the individuals with CP during hypo therapy sessions, iii) establish the communicative functions effectively promoted by hypo therapists, iv) register these professionals? opinions about the characteristics the AACSs should present allowing their functional use as well as the main reasons demonstrated by the same not to use AACSs in hypo therapy sessions with children suffering from CP. Seventy five professionals, working in Portugal were selected to participate in this study. The final sample of it was of only twenty six participants effectively. The obtained results, due to this reduced sample, do not allow us to make generalizations, however, they suggest that the use of the AACSs during hypo therapy sessions it?s not common in Portugal, giving special attention to various aspects, relevant for a better use of this context specially in what concerns the promotion of these children?s communicative skills.
