The present work is the result of an investigation made to evaluate the recreation experiences of teenagers with Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD) and a Specific Individual Curriculum (SIC) and Alternative Curriculums (AC). After analysing the interviews made to four teenagers and their families, we inferred that the school does not seem to give much importance to the recreation area within the structure of the SIC. There are very few examples of such, maybe because teachers themselves don´t value those activities and therefore do not include them in the curriculum. The opinions gathered reflect the need for a more dynamic and enterprising school. Another aspect which stands out is the need to organize a structuring curriculum of an effective nature. Based upon the contexts of life, the curriculum should develop areas such as personal autonomy, socialization and recreation, with the purpose of promoting the transition to adult life. The role of the teacher is therefore fundamental in the selection of the contents. These should meet the interests, motivations and necessities of the pupils and provide meaningful effective experiences for the present and future life. One can therefore say that inclusive educational systems imply significant changes within the school and in terms of educational and pedagogical practices, so that efficient responses can be achieved. In this context, a ?school for all? and ?with all? requires a flexible curriculum. UR - http://repositorio.esepf.pt/handle/20.500.11796/1502 Y1 - 2014 PB - No publisher defined
