Assim, consideramos que são prementes alterações e adaptações a realizar dentro e fora da sala de aula, para promover o sucesso da aprendizagem da leitura e da escrita nos alunos cegos.ABSTRACT This study analyses and searches to understand the path followed by visually impaired children in what concerns the learning of reading and writing in braille. Its purpose is to understand the ways in which tactile kinesthetic development and haptic perception is worked in preschool education giving the blind students the same tools as sighted children in what respects prerequisites of apprehension of reading and writing. We conducted a theoretical revision based on authors such as Ochaita e Rosa (1993, 1995), Piaget (1952, 1975), Rodrigues (2001, 2003, 2006, 2013) and Sim-sim (1998), which allowed us to deepen our knowledge on this subject. We made a qualitative study using seven interviews as data collecting method, two of which of teachers of special education and five others of teachers of regular education who have visually impaired students among their class and all of whom teach in a school of reference in the city of Porto. The aim of the research questions were to understand the resources and practices available and indispensable to the tactile kinesthetic development that allows the blind child a proficient reading and writing propedeutics; in what ways the work done, in a pre-school context and afterwards, in primary school, with emphasis in the haptic perception, promotes the propedeutics and future learning of reading and writing in a blind child and what opportunities of success the visually impaired children have over sighted children. We concluded that teachers are aware of the importance of the tactile kinesthetic development and haptic perception in the visually impaired children, as well as the influence that these play in reading and writing propedeutics. However, teachers face many limitations in their role, namely, due to the lack of training, absence of resources, low efficacy of working in pairs and insufficient number of hours of support dedicated to these children. Therefore, daily changes and adaptations are needed, in and out of the classroom, to promote successful reading and writing learning in the visually impaired children.en_US
