Abstract

O presente projeto resulta de uma preocupação pessoal e profissional sobre o futuro das crianças e jovens com Trissomia 21, relevando a sua integração numa Associação Portuguesa de Pais e Amigos do Cidadão Deficiente Mental (APPACDM). Numa pesquisa bibliográfica aprofundada torna-se para nós evidente a pertinência do percurso histórico da inclusão, tanto como conhecer as normas legislativas atuais face às crianças e jovens com Necessidades Educativas Especiais. Neste estudo de caso, investigámos quais os apoios da APPACDM perante os seus utentes com Trissomia 21 e familiares, quais as suas preocupações e dificuldades na integração dos mesmos. Desta forma, torna-se igualmente necessário compreendermos os conceitos de Deficiência Intelectual e Desenvolvimental e de Trissomia 21, atendendo às suas etologias, aos seus graus e às suas características. Na parte empírica deste projeto, tendo em conta os seus objetivos e fundamentos na abordagem metodológica, utilizámos as entrevistas e a técnica de observação direta, sendo esta uma investigação de caráter qualitativo.ABSTRACT This work stems from a personal and professional concern for the future of children and young adults with Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome), as revealed through the study of their integration in the Portuguese Association of Parents and Friends of the Mentally Handicapped Citizen (APPACDM). Detailed biographical research makes evident the pertinence of inclusion and its evolution over time, and also knowledge of the current legislation with respect to children and young adults with Special Educational Needs. This case study explores the support APPACDM provides to people with Trisomy 21 and their family members, and explores the concerns and difficulties felt in their integration. As such it becomes equally necessary to understand the concepts of Mental and Developmental Disability and Trisomy 21, with added awareness of their etiologies, degrees and characteristics. In the empirical part of this project, considering project objectives and fundamentals of the methodological approach, interviews and direct observation were used as the study is qualitative in nature.
